Charity Bank

The year I spent abroad for higher studies was full of spontaneous successes. Donating to the charity bank brought good luck in all my activities including course work and paper presentations. Towards the end of my stay my visa expiry date was getting closer and closer, but I still had a lot of thesis work left. I put some money in the bank and started to write. I completed the paper nicely, defended it successfully and graduated before I returned home.

My father is 56. A few months ago he was diagnosed with diabetes and heart problems. Naturally we became very concerned. Besides medical treatment, meditation and prayer, I also donated regularly to the Charity Bank for my father's health. In six months he had another check up. Amazingly, no problems were found this time. We were so surprised that we had some more tests done before we became certain of his health. Thanks to God, we have found a way to keep our family healthy and happy.

I have found a lot of relief since I started donating to the charity bank for moral and spiritual growth. Before, if I made any mistake consciously or unconsciously, I would be overwhelmed by guilt. But now I donate to the charity bank as a penance for my mistake, and instead of the burden of guilt I feel a strong commitment not to repeat the same mistake in the future.

My younger daughter moved to Canada after graduating in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). After doing a Masters in the same subject she started applying for jobs. She was interviewed in three stages for a job but finally wasn't called. I told her to make a pledge that if she got a job, she would donate 2.5 % of her first month's salary to the charity bank. Three days later she was invited to join a different company. She started working within one and a half month of graduating, with almost twice the salary she had expected.

One morning I suddenly felt a pain on the right side of my chest. But I didn’t pay much attention to it then. But by afternoon when the pain increased, I got scared. Examining the blood report the doctor diagnosed that it might be a bad kind of jaundice as the bilirubin level was very high. The next day I again took some medical tests in the hospitals of Dhaka. But the reports were vague. The same tests were carried out twice more in a different hospital. Then the doctors suggested getting admitted in the hospital.

My dream was to admit my daughter in one of the renowned school. So I was preparing my daughter for admission test for the first school of my choice. Few days before the admission test, the school gave a notice in the local newspaper that the army run school will admit only the children of the army officials. Though I was a little depressed I didn’t lose hope. I started donating in the charity bank and gave names for healing. The school authority in their next notice announced that the KG class will have limited seats for the children of the general citizens.

My elder sister’s daughter was suffering from severe pain in the kidney. Medical test confirmed that it was kidney stones. The stones were clearly visible in the report. Everyone at home was really disturbed. There was no other option but to operate.

I had to go to the land registration office for fixing the complexities regarding a recently bought land. The office was situated inside a village, which was 10 minutes walk from the main road. As the road was earthen I decided to walk the distance. When I reached the office I noticed that the file which had all the papers and the deeds was missing. If I can’t find the deeds then the land will go out of my hand. I didn’t even have a copy of the deed. I immediately set off to search for the lost papers. I thoroughly searched the road and asked anyone I came across. But no one could help me.

In the outskirt of Dhaka I own a house which I gave out for rent. One day some undisciplined labors entered the area and started setting fire on the houses of the local people. When they were setting fire to my neighbor’s house my tenants called me over phone. They were as much panic stricken as I was helpless. As I lived far from that place I had nothing to do for them. So I donated in the charity bank and prayed to Allah so that the house was not harmed. With the grace of Almighty my house was really saved from that day’s sabotage.

My sister was diagnosed with ovarian cyst. But the doctor didn’t want to operate her fearing that it might later cause problem for her child bearing. After this four years went by and meanwhile she gave birth to 3 children; all of them were caesarian. But by this time the cyst grew larger and turned into a tumor. The doctor said it’d turn into cancer if not operated soon. Another doctor declared that it was already cancer. If operated this time then my sister would be operated for the 4th time. And so the local doctors didn’t dare to take the risk of operating her.
