Charity Bank

My fifty plus old mother-in-law was suffering from various illnesses and underwent major operations several times. She suffered from severe complexities from an operation of her appendicitis. The sore from the operation wouldn’t heal because of her excess fat and high diabetes. None of the medicines worked, rather it became septic and turned into gangrene. The situation went so bad that the doctors as their last try decided to inject her with 4 injections, each of which cost 1 lakh taka. But this also had a possibility of worsening the condition.

Every day when I reach my office I donate 50/100 taka in the charity bank. In my business career it is a proven fact that on whichever day I have donated in the bank with some special wish I got new opportunities for my business. For the last one year I was trying hard to supply my products to one of the firms. But nothing was working out. Moreover the main responsible officer of that firm was so short tempered that it is very difficult even to go with any discussion with him. He even physically abuses his subordinates and many of my representatives came back being offended by him.

In 2007, during the birth of my second child I had some complexities. Everyone was ready for an operation. My husband donated some money in the charity bank. But suddenly a nurse entered the operation theatre and announced that I’d have a normal delivery. After some time I normally gave birth to a healthy child.

Last year on the second day of Eid I was returning home on a rickshaw. Suddenly I discovered that my handbag was missing. I felt so lost and helpless. Apart from cash, the bag had my cell phone and my friend’s. I asked the rickshaw puller to turn back the rickshaw and I went searching on the roads which we just left behind. But the bag was nowhere. So I wished to donate in the charity bank and pronounced the Quanta sound thrice. I called one of my other friends from a shop to tell her the bad news. To my surprise she asked me if I had lost my bag.

I had to face some complexities with the owner of a land regarding the leasing conditions of 15 decimals of land for establishing a farm. It was impossible to go by their illogical conditions and but we also didn't want to lose the land. So we made a wish in the charity bank. In just one week time the situation changed – they signed the contract without their illogical condition, which they were so firm about.

I used to take and bring back home my two sons from school. As my house was quite far from school it was getting impossible to maintain their school timing with my office hour. I donated some money in the charity bank with the hope for finding a new home. I was also visualizing my new house in meditation . After few days I found a home just in walking distance from the school. The rent was reasonable and it was even better than I thought of.

I gave a charity bank in a shop of a big shopping complex. After few months when I went to collect the bank I met the owner of the shop. He said that he also saw a charity bank in his retailer’s shop in Islampur. He heard from his retailer that he’s getting many advantages after he started putting money in it. I was relieved that now at least he understands the importance of the charity bank. But I didn’t meet him again despite going to the shop for several times for collecting the bank. It was Ramadan when I last went.

Last year in London I recruited a solicitor for few thousands of pounds to run one of my legal cases. But even before the case was solved he took all his fees in advance and said if the case got more complicated, then his fees had to be raised further. My case was a bit complicated. So I wondered what would I do if the fee had to be increased further? It’s not possible for me to loan from others. I vowed to donate in the charity bank and also registered my name for the Jalali healing wishing for a successful case and for the fee to be within my ability.

During Eid-Ul-Azha I was travelling to Gopalgonj in a private car. After crossing the Buriganga Bridge the driver suddenly started driving recklessly. I was just praying to Allah doing the Quanta sign. I don’t remember anything after that.

Even after lot of efforts and lobbying, my wife’s transfer notice couldn’t be cancelled. She had to transfer to a college outside Dhaka. For some physical problems, she needed to consult a specialist every three month. I continued to request the officers for trying to bring back my wife in Dhaka. One night when meditating, suddenly I was repentant. How could I go from people to people asking for help and not once sought help from Him who has all the solutions! I prayed to Allah for forgiveness and also vowed to donate in the charity bank.
