‘Ashroyemom’…’Ashoroye’ means ‘shelter’ and ‘mom’ means ‘love’. Ashroyemom established in Rajbila of Bandorban District on 19th March 2012 is now the home and provision of 70+ seven grandfathers and one grandmother.

In this age of increasing restlessness, more and more promising lives are being destroyed by drugs. While many drug rehabilitation centers exist, they often fail to successfully address the underlying causes of the addiction, the deep-rooted emptiness and frustration in the addict’s mind. As a result, the rate of recidivism, or becoming addicted again after rehab, is quite high.

Have you ever been shocked to hear of new born babies found in dust bins or in front of hospitals?

If so, you will be happy to know that in March 2004, Quantum Shishu Shodon was established in the Foundation’s Rajshahi Center to raise these babies as enlightened human beings. Shishu Shodon takes in babies found abandoned in various parts of town and provides them with the necessary care.

At present, 11 girls found abandoned in various parts of the country are being brought up under the direct supervision of Shahida Banu, retired Principal of Nursing Institute, the Honorary Director of Shishu Shodon. The eldest, named Nadira Tahseen, is now 5 years old. Like Nadira, these babies, who seemed destined to die a premature death, are now growing up with the love and affection of all the Quantum family.

The foundation has taken the initiative to bury or cremate dead bodies that cannot be identified or cannot be taken care of by the family. A total of 188 dead bodies have been buried or cremated with full religious rites since the initiation of the program in Rajshahi in 2004. The program also operates in Narayangonj, Khulna and Lama.

The matri mongol or Mother Care Program operating in Chittagong and Uttara provides pre and post partum care to expecting mothers, including counselling, check ups, regular supply of drugs, providing one egg per day for nutrition etc. Since the beginning of the program in 2005,  care and treatment has been provided to 179 mothers.

Eid Ul Azha or Qurbani Eid is the second most important religious festival for Muslims. On this day, all Muslim families who are able sacrifice an animal, honouring Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) readiness to sacrifice his own son for God. The meat of the sacrificed animal is then distributed amongst family, relatives and the destitute.

Celebrating Eid Ul Azha in Lama is unique among the various Quantum Service Programs. Quantum Foundation’s Chairman Shahid El Bukhari Mahajataq has been celebrating Qurbani Eid in Lama since 2002. Many destitute people from the surrounding area, who had never been able to afford meat, tasted it for the first time that year. Since then, more and more people– from within and outside of Quantum– have been participating in Lama Qurbani. In 2007, a total of 10,894 kilograms of meat were distributed among 7,315 local families. Participants in Lama Qurbani not only enjoy themselves but through their contributions to those less fortunate, share their happiness and fulfilment. In doing so, they bring alive the true spirit of Eid.

You can participate in Qurbani in Lama too. You and your family are welcome to celebrate your Qurbani Eid in the Quantum polli with hundreds of others. You can also contribute financially for the sacrifice of an animal. For details, please contact the Quantum center, cell or branch nearest to you.

Clothes, including winter clothes are distributed amongst the needy under this programme. Between April and December 2008, 709 pieces of clothes were distributed in Chittagong, 561 in Mirpur, and 180 pieces in Sylhet.

Under this project, deprived people are provided with income generating tools such as sewing machines and cows in order to help them become self reliant. So far, 2 sewing machines have been distributed in Jessore and 1 in Sylhet. In addition, 48 people in Jessore have been given 40 bulls and 8 cows.

Since the beginning, Quantum Foundation has stood by the grief-stricken people of Bangladesh during all major calamities.

During the devastating floods of 1998, 2004, and 2007, relief goods, including more than a hundred thousand packages of oral saline prepared by Quantum volunteers, were distributed amongst the flood affected people. The inhabitants of several villages were rehabilitated.

Setting up water tanks on street sides was the first social service program undertaken by Quantum. The first tank was set up in Dhaka in 1996. At present, 81 water tanks in various places ensure passers by have access to safe drinking water.

In addition 52 tube wells have been set up in  various places including Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet to provide safe drinking water. Two ring wells have been set up in Sylhet. Tube-wells have also been set up in the SIDR affected areas in Potuakhali.
